Growing Pains
Tragedies may come
And tragedies may go
Actions we may control
Emotions we may know
Our hearts may be broken
Time and time again
The tears and pain may come
As if they’ve always been
But just as we may fall
The sun may set tonight
Just as we may rise tomorrow
The sun will rise with beauty, bright
The ups and downs
They hurt I know
So many toils
Troubles and woe
The ups and downs
They come and go
One thing I’ve learned
It hurts to grow
Tiffanie Shanks
Imagine a desert:
Hot under the sun;
Dry under the heat;
And empty like empty has never been defined.
And in that desert
(Rock after baking rock
Silence after thundering silence)
You stand at the smallest tuft of grass -
A tiny oasis (hope) in a gigantic desert (despair);
A growing patch of life in a desert of nothingness.
It is communion:
A magic juncture
where a new reality blooms in the tissue-thin place of heaven nuzzling earth
Come now
To the place where today's saints
meet their ancestors,
Where disciples of every moment
dance together,
Where the oppressed meet the free
and the hungry meet the powerful.
It is a political place.
A noisy place.
A deep place.
An oasis in the world.
A hint of what will one day be:
Vivid, daring new life.
Take off you shoes:
This is Holy Ground.
